Institute Presentation

Goethe University (GU) Frankfurt is one of the leading Universities in Germany. The Medical Faculty was positioned among the 75 best Universities worldwide in the Shanghai Ranking Clinical Medicine and Pharmacy of 2012.

The Department of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, Psychosomatics and Psychotherapy (CAPPP) serves the Frankfurt area (> 1 Mio inhabitants). It has 4 inpatient and 2 day clinic wards, and a large outpatient clinic (> 2000 patients/year). CAPPP serves around 500 new patients with different CD-subtypes per year. Especially one of the inpatient wards focuses on dialectic behavior therapy (DBT) treatment for adolescents. A close collaboration exists with local schools, youth welfare, and forensic institutions.

Research at CAPPP is organized in 4 areas:

  • Clinical research (diagnostic and psychotherapy studies)
  • Neuropsychology lab (executive function and emotion processing studies)
  • Brain-imaging lab (own 2 x 32-channels EEGs; 2 x 3 Tesla MRI together with Brain Imaging Centre Frankfurt)
  • Molecular biological lab (genetic and proteomic studies; fully equipped for DNA extraction, genotyping, functional studies).

Main tasks of GU attributed to the FemNAT-Project will be the lead of work package (WP) WP1, WP9 and WP10. Furthermore, GU contributes to WP2-WP4, WP6 and WP8 (data collection and analysis of cross-sectional and longitudinal study; fMRI and sMRI and psychotherapy studies, ethics).

Prof. Freitag is the coordinator of FemNAT-CD. She is head of the CAPPP since 12/2008 and has a long track record on clinical, brain imaging, and genetic studies in ADHD, CD, and Autism Spectrum Disorder.
