Brief description of the organization and summary of experiences relevant to the project
The Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Department is an integral unit of the Pediatrics and Child Health Center at the University of Szeged. It was established in 1960 and serves a catchment area of about 2 000 000 inhabitants. The department offers inpatient and outpatient mental health services to children and youth from birth to 18 years of age. There is a well-organized cooperation with child welfare institutions of this region as well.  Our multidisciplinary team leading by AV includes 9 child psychiatrists, 3 psychologists, 16 nurses, 2 social workers,1  speech therapist, 2 special education teachers, 3 creative arts therapists. The inpatient division of the department – with 30 beds and yearly over 800 admissions - provides comprehensive developmental and environmental assessment as well as diagnostic evaluation and basically cognitive behavior therapy for a variety of childhood and adolescent psychiatric disorders. Recently referrals - because of behavioral problems and conduct disorders - are more frequent and dealing with these kids and their families become a substantial issue for the team at the department. On the outpatient department are working 3 specialist in CAP, 3 clinical psychologists and 2 social workers. It delivers services like psychotherapeutic and psychosocial interventions or family consultations to approximately 13000 patients per year.
The department also aims to integrate teaching, research, and clinical services. Our team is also takes part in different clinical psychopharmacology trials.
