Southampton - About the center

The Developmental Brain-Behaviour Lab at the University of Southampton (UoS)

The Developmental Brain-Behaviour Laboratory is a vibrant, multi-disciplinary research group (made up of neuroscientists, developmental and clinical psychologists, geneticists, and psychiatrists). Our research is focused on the neurobiological foundations of typical and atypical development. The long-term goal of our research is to help improve the lives of children with developmental disorders and their families. The Laboratory is recognised internationally for its research in developmental psychopathology, and particularly externalising disorders such as Conduct Disorder and Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD).

We use brain imaging and neuropsychological methods to study the structure and function of the brain, and we are also collecting data on molecular genetics, hormones, physiological activity, personality traits, and early life experiences. We hope that this information will tell us more about the differences and similarities between boys and girls, and help us to explain why boys are more likely than girls to get in trouble at school or to develop behavioural difficulties. The study is open to young people aged between 9 and 18 years old. We are interested in recruiting young people who rarely get in trouble at school or home as well as those who may have been permanently excluded from school or in contact with the police.

If you are interested in taking part in the study or if you have any questions about the project, please contact Areti if you live in Southampton or south Hampshire (or call: 07979 072331). If you live in Reading or north Hampshire, please contact Ignazio if you’re interested in taking part in the study or to ask questions (or call: 07979 073512).
